In 2008, almost a dozen Republicans will seek the party’s nomination for the presidency and attempt to retain control of the White House for the GOP. Vice President Dick Cheney previously stated that he will not seek the Republican nomination, and with the 22nd Amendment barring President Bush from seeking a third term, 2008 will be the first presidential election without an incumbent in 80 years.
The candidates listed below have either filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to create a presidential exploratory committee, or have formally declared their candidacy.
